What does DuraCoat do?
DuraCoat is our patented corrosion prevention coating that increases the life of your window, especially if it’s exposed to humidity or other corrosive environments. For minimal transmission loss, we make DuraCoat with elements lighter than oxygen.
Visit our DuraBeryllium product page > -
What is DuraCoat Plus?
DuraCoat Plus is a polymer film added on top of our standard DuraCoat that adds additional corrosion prevention and leak integrity.
-
Does DuraCoat Plus have DuraCoat as well?
Yes
-
Where is DuraCoat applied?
Generally, you would apply DuraCoat to any exposed surface using a proprietary deposition process.
-
Can I epoxy directly to DuraCoat?
Yes you can.
-
Where can I find transmission curves for your windows?
On each of our X-ray windows product pages, we've included a downloadable datasheet with that information.
-
How do you measure the leak rate of your windows?
On each of our X-ray windows product pages, we've included a downloadable datasheet with that information.
-
How do I design a window mount?
Please see our window mount design notes.

What are the health hazards associated with beryllium?
Under normal conditions and intended use, our X-ray windows have no exposure limits, nor do they represent an inhalation, ingestion or contact hazard.
Please reference our Material Safety Datasheet (MSDS) for conditions that could cause harmful exposure to beryllium.
See Material Safety Datasheet > -
Can I buy bare beryllium from Moxtek?
We are capable of providing bare beryllium. However, for your window’s protection, we strongly recommend using DuraCoat.
X-Ray Detectors
-
Do you sell a Silicon Drift Detector?
At this time, we only sell PIN detectors.
X-Ray Sources
- How can I minimize or eliminate the need to calibrate my X-ray source?
-
Does Moxtek manufacture tubes with voltages higher than 40kV?
Yes. We also offer tubes with voltages ranging between 50kV and 70kV. Please visit our X-ray sources page for more information on specific models.
-
Does Moxtek offer any sources with imaging capabilities?
Yes, our MAGPRO™ 70kV source can be used for imaging. Please visit the product page for more information.
-
What target materials are offered on your source?
Each X-ray source web page contains a downloadable datasheet with that information.
Visit our X-ray Sources page > -
Why would you need different targets—like tungsten and rhodium—on an X-ray source?
For XRF, tungsten is often used for metal identification RoHs/WHEE. Likewise, Rhodium or silver is typically used for light element analysis, detection of aluminum, magnesium, sulfur, etc.

What are the dimensions of your available sources?
For monoblocks:
We have a 4W (max), 50kV (max) monoblock source that is as small as 6” (150mm) long by 1” (25.4mm) wide by 2” (51mm) tall.
We have a 12W (max), 60kV (max) monoblock source that is as large as 6.5” (165mm) long by 1.35” (35mm) wide by 2.75” (70mm) tall.
For cabled power supplies, the power supply boxes range as follows: We have a 4W (max), 40kV (max) power supply that is as small as 5” (128mm) long by 0.8” (21mm) wide by 2” (51mm) tall, cables running between 4” (102mm) and 11.5” (292mm).
We have a 10W (max), 50kV (max) power supply that is as small as 5.7” (145mm) long by 0.9” (23mm) wide by 2.25” (57mm) tall, cables running between 4” (102mm) and 11.5” (292mm).
The tube shields range greatly, typically between 1.125” (29mm) and 1.25” (32mm) in diameter, 2.18” (55mm) to 2.5” (64mm) long.
Specific source dimensions are also on their respective Datasheets -
Does Moxtek offer the power supply for x-ray tubes?
Yes, Moxtek offers power supplies with our X-ray tubes.
-
What power supply controller do you recommend for Moxtek tubes?
We recommend our FTC-200 X-ray Tube Controller. For more information, we’ve posted a lot about this product on its detailed web page.
Visit our FTC-200 Tube Controller page > -
Are Optional Ribbon Cable (ASM00362) and Optional 2-PIN Secondary Cable (ASM00364) delivered with the product?
The Optional Ribbon Cable is included with each of our FTC tube controllers. Our 2-PIN Secondary Cable is included with our standard 50kV cabled units. At the customer’s request, we will deliver the Optional Ribbon Cable and or Optional 2-pin Secondary Cable separately.
-
How many photons per second does a Moxtek X-ray Source typically emit?
At 40kV, our tungsten sources give off approximately 3.0x1011 photons/second/steradian/100uA. Our silver sources (also at 40kV) give off approximately 1.5x1011 photons/second/steradian/100uA.
